The first political movement to emerge on Mars, Red Nation crystallises the resentment of the working class and their hatred of others in favour of an ultra-violent union with extremist pro-human views.
Founded in the aftermath of the strikes at Ascraeus Mons, the tiny group capitalised on the disappointment of G.L.F. members to offer a less subtle alternative to the latter. Appealing to the baser instincts of its flock with its divisive rhetoric, its acts of violence of all kinds monopolise the forces of law and order and hybrids, the main victims of workers who are hungry, tired and worn down by the living conditions in the Arches.
While picket lines and blockades are obviously part of the Red Nation’s arsenal, its members never hesitate to resort to sabotage, weapons or even attacks.
The movement, even though it presents itself as a political party, is regarded at best with suspicion, at worst with aversion, by the masterminds of Colonie-1. The Empire is working hard to have it classified as a terrorist organisation so that it can work with greater latitude to eradicate it, but it would appear that Red Nation has powerful supporters capable of preventing a cascade of searches and arrests. There are also rumours of a generous patron who is said to be providing the party’s most virulent members with weaponry capable of overshadowing the mediocre martial prowess of its agitators…
The first direct reference to the armed activities of the Brotherhood of Rust dates back to 5R4, when its founding members assaulted the headquarters of Hybrid Family S.A. during the Ascreus Mons strikes. Although the group was not named directly in the media at the time, there is no doubt today that it was involved in the operation. The Brotherhood did not stop there, however, and made its mark on the trade union barricades in the mines throughout the conflict. Their leader, Tony Moreno, was seriously wounded during the last assault by the Empire forces on shaft number 62.
He was captured by the authorities and tried for incitement to riot, vandalism, possession of prohibited weapons and murder. His murder in captivity did not put an end to the Brotherhood of Rust, and in fact strengthened the convictions of its members, most of whom lead a double life in the service of Liberty and Equality.
